The organization was originally formed in 1993 as the Dispute Resolution Center of Lewis County by a group of concerned citizens, Lewis County Bar Legal Aid and the Lewis County Commissioners. The name of the organization was legally changed to Community Mediation Center of Lewis County in 2007. Community Mediation Center (CMC) is a 501 (c) (3) corporation that has been providing alternative dispute resolution services to the people of Lewis County since it was created.
With the encouragement of our statewide organization, Resolution Washington, the dispute resolution centers (DRCs) are choosing new names to reflect an enhanced mission — enlighten the community that our centers are capable of much more than mediation.
CMC has now been changed to Center for Constructive Resolution and Conversation (CCRC). For those who find it a mouthful, please feel free to refer to us as CCRC. Remember how many other functions we serve–family or business facilitation, conversations between personal or business partners, facilitation of conversations to plan strategies to reduce conflict in all types of relationships, training, and supervised visitation to name a few.
The CMC/now CCRC office has been in several locations over the years. Our current location is 500 W. Main St. in Centralia. We are in the brick building that houses Edward Jones, Liberty Tax, and Keysar Spa. While they occupy the first floor, we are on the second. Enter through the main door and proceed up the stairs.
To give greater access to those needing services, in 2007 CMC began offering mediations at outside locations, such as Morton, Salkum, and the Kelso/Longview area. CCRC will continue this service from our new location as well.
The Connections Supervised Visitation (CSV) program was begun in 2011 to fill a need in our community. This program provides a safe, home-like place for children to meet with parents whose time with them has been court-ordered to be professionally supervised.
CCRC provides mediation, telephone conciliation, group facilitation, problem-solving and referral services. Other than CSV, the cost of these services is on a sliding scale based on income.
